It’s not the first time that we are writing about the new possibilities in increasing safety through the use of drones. This time, scientists from Duke University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill are testing the efficiency of drones in tracking shark behaviour along coastal waterways. Until now, the main difficulty with spotting sharks was in recruiting sharks for location studies. With the new technology in place, scientists are not only able to spot sharks from above but also asses how deep they are swimming. Of course, the main purpose of the research is to study the behaviour of the animals. On the other hand, drones will be able to monitor nearby beaches for sharks and inform swimmers of any danger. The team hopes that in the new few years it will be able to keep us all save from shark attacks.
