The main challenge in most of the growing economies is the lack of roads and therefore efficient transport. Until now the only way to overcome those problems was believed to be through the development of infrastructure. Instead of waiting for the highways to be built, companies from Rwanda have decided to implement drones in their delivery process. A partnership between Zipline the health ministry, Gavi and the UPS Foundation was formed with the aim to deliver medical supplies to rural health centres. The first stage of the project involves dropping blood in boxes from a height of 300ft-400ft using small paper parachutes. If successful, the partnership plans to extend the service to vaccines and other supplies.
