Poland’s view on drone legislation

03/05/16

As for today, the polish law puts little restriction on commercial drones and allows drone users to fly them anywhere as long as the drone is in their eye sight. The only applicable restrictions today are for flights in the airport air controlled airspace, which for Warsaw means almost all of the metropolitan area. In case of restriction breach, one could end up with jail time of up to five years.

Currently, the Polish law distinguishes the drone by the purpose of use and its weight. For commercial flights one needs to have a qualification similar to a driving license, which is given after completing a both technical and theoretical exam, medical examination and getting an insurance.  In addition, if the drone weights more than 25 kg then it also needs a permission from the President of the Civil Aviation Authority.

With the growing amount of drones, it seems like the Polish government is not putting enough emphasis on preparing decent legislation which will tackle not only the satisfy aspect but also privacy and responsibility in case a drone causes an accident.
