This week we have seen yet another example of reckless usage of drones. Moreover, the situation has once again shown the importance of drone regulations and the consequences of not following safety rules.

On the 25th of May, two arriving airliners spotted the unmanned aerial vehicle during their approach into Ottawa’s airport. In order to avoid the danger, two CF-18 fighter jets were send over to Ottawa.

Steve Neta, senior public affairs officer for the North American Aerospace Defence Command, says that risk that drones could pose to an aircraft, is significant and thus the reaction was justified.

Hopefully, the rather harsh reaction will make drone operators more cautious. Finally, the incident shows that the governmental organizations are able to react and have a strategy for any drone related risk situation.
