The Mergers and Acquisitions team of PwC Polska, ranked first among transaction advisors in terms of the number of completed transactions on the Polish market in 2022, according to renowned M&A rankings prepared by Thomson Reuters Refinitiv, Dealogic, Bloomberg, among others. As a leading transaction advisor (M&A), the team led by Adam Demusiak and Marcin Byrt has successfully completed 16 transactions in Poland for a total amount of over PLN 8.5 billion.
"The trust and long-term value we bring to every transaction is appreciated by both private clients and private equity funds. We thank them very much for that - a credit to our entire Deals Platform team. We are #1 in the Thomson Reuters Refinitiv, Dealogic, Bloomberg transaction rankings as the advisor with the most deals completed in 2022 in Poland, we repeated this fantastic result for the fourth year in a row. We have ranked #1 in Poland by number of completed transactions 6 times in the last 8 years”
Despite the deteriorating macroeconomic and geopolitical situation (implications of the war in Ukraine), investor activity in 2022 in our region remained strong. A lot of deals completed in non-cyclical sectors such as infrastructure (e.g. renewable energy) and the technology sector (e.g. payments, telematics and SaaS services) made up for decreased investor appetite and fewer deals in risk-prone sectors e.g. FMCG, construction.
Limited access and the rising cost of debt financing last year, combined with greater uncertainty regarding the performance of companies in 2023 and 2024, translated into slightly lower valuation levels (transaction multiples) in most sectors.
"This year will, in my opinion, continue to be based on sector polarisation in terms of number of deals. Investors will particularly value companies which i) are able to translate rising costs of doing business into consumers, ii) operate globally rather than locally, thus diversifying the risk of demand fluctuations in a single market, iii) are additionally able, through their scale and financial resources, to take advantage of acquisition opportunities and consolidate the market (inorganic growth). Today, we are running several projects for private equity funds that are intensively looking for potential acquisition targets for their platforms in the CEE region"
In the last 12 months, the M&A team led by Adam Demusiak and Marcin Byrt, as a leading transaction advisor, participated in 16 completed transactions in Poland with a total value of more than PLN 8.5 billion (last year it was 15 transactions worth approximately PLN 8 billion), working with leading Private Equity funds, including Innova Capital, Abris Capital Partners, Tar Heel Capital, 21 Invest and companies that are leaders in their market segments, e.g. VGL Solid Group, Sygnity, Hymon, Rockfin, Miropasz, Stella Pack, Columbus Energy, YieldPlanet, Vitol.
"As a leading transaction advisor, PwC globally was involved in over 800 closed transactions in 2022 (the most of any M&A advisor), compared to 720 transactions in 2021. 'Our team in Poland benefits from a wide network of consultants from all over the world, as well as participating in many international projects - this provides a great opportunity for people who, like us, are passionate about transactions to grow”
