Wojciech Popławski has joined the ranks of PwC Polska partners, where he is set to enhance the firm's existing capabilities in the scope and scale of services within the Global Business Services sector for clients. He will lead the Finance Managed Service, a team that provides managed services solutions in finance. Popławski's inclusion is poised to expedite PwC's growth strategy, "Reinvent the Future," aiming to augment the number of specialists in advanced outsourcing functions by 2,000 people over the next three years in Poland.
With 20 years of experience, Wojciech Popławski is a recognized leader in the GBS industry across Central and Eastern Europe, boasting a strong network of professional contacts and a significant impact on the business services market in the region. He has served on the management board of the ABSL organization, which represents approximately 250 global brands in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, for seven years.
"We aim to leverage the immense talent potential in Poland and the region to accelerate the development of the managed services model for both the PwC network and our clients. We believe there will be strong growth in managed services in finance, among other areas, which requires experienced experts and reliable technologies to manage and continually optimize these processes. The addition of Wojtek, an experienced leader, will undoubtedly strengthen us and create more opportunities for our clients"
Currently, global companies rarely outsource processes that carry greater risks or require a high level of trust in a partner. Concerns include whether the organization will engage the right people and take comprehensive responsibility for the project. Hence, examples of outsourcing management accounting processes, complex accounting tasks requiring decision-making that impacts the company's financial results, internal audits, or taxes to external entities are relatively scarce. These are complex processes, marking the next evolution in business services - Managed Service Operations. Presently, about 1,000 individuals are employed in teams providing such services at PwC. This number is expected to surge to 3,000 within three years.
"I am convinced that PwC, known for key values such as quality and trust, built through services like audit, tax, and legal advisory, and consulting knowledge, particularly its readiness to take on the risks associated, is a natural partner to provide Managed Service services. This involves taking on additional responsibilities in areas previously overlooked for cost optimization. PwC possesses these resources and knows how to utilize people's talents to develop them in the area of comprehensive financial expertise. This motivated me to join the team. Together, we will ensure a new level of outsourcing services that both global and regional organizations expect today, while also creating development opportunities for individuals seeking beyond traditional BPO roles"
In Poland, at least 430,000 individuals work in the business services sector, employed in over 1,700 BPO, SSC/GBS, IT, and R&D service centers, with foreign investments comprising 70 percent. The Central and Eastern European region leads these services in Europe. PwC plans to harness this potential in its development strategy, combining existing competencies related to market trust with effective technology use and Managed Services. The PwC network currently employs 364,000 people globally, with over 6,000 in Poland, where USD 3.7 billion has been invested in cloud transformation sectors and businesses tackling climate change, among other areas.
"The GenAI revolution is altering the landscape for language skills and intelligent solutions for unstructured data. Additionally, geopolitical tensions and the risks associated with service concentration in Asia are prompting 'right-shoring' processes to balance managed service locations in line with our clients' long-term interests. Cultural convergence and geographical proximity are gaining importance due to their impact on reducing costs, leading customers from Europe and the USA to increasingly opt for nearshore options, such as Poland and the CEE region, for better communication and service quality. With Wojtek on board, we are better equipped for this transformation"
PwC companies in Poland employ over 2,000 technology specialists alone, with the portfolio of IT services expanding annually. The growing team of experts in IT tools, CRM, GenAI, ERP, cloud, and cybersecurity, along with those knowledgeable in legal and tax regulations, are creating a unique service offering. Additionally, strategic alliances with the world's leading technology companies further strengthen the company's position.
