Are you familiar with the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)? Do you know whether and how this regulation applies to your business?
The EU regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (effective since June 2023) requires companies to meet strict EUDR due diligence obligations to combat global deforestation. It ensures that specified commodities and their derived products placed on–or exported from–EU market are deforestation-free and legally produced. A key requirement is verifying that production areas your products derive from have not been deforested after 31 December 2020, across the entire supply chain.
Understanding your company’s EUDR exposure – whether you are an operator or trader – is essential to continue trading deforestation-risk commodities such as coffee, cocoa, cattle, palm oil, soy, rubber, and wood, as well as over 800 EUDR-listed derived product categories within the EU.
