A startup called Intelligent Flying Machines (IFM) has set its sights on fully automating the process of taking inventory in warehouses. The aim is to greatly reduce the cost while increasing the accuracy of taking inventory. Any errors and alerts are sent to tablets located on the aisles, which would be inspected by warehouse staff. A few day ordeal could be reduced to a matter of minutes thanks to a fleet of drones, and the frequency of these inspections could be greatly increased. The startup plans its first roll-out next year; however, at this time there are still flaws to iron out, as the drone failed to successfully complete its task at a demonstration of the drone earlier this week.
