The Economist has published an article about the future of drone Taxis, confirming that the idea is not as crazy as one could think some years ago. Moreover, there are already ‘dronecopters’ undergoing tests, such as the Volocopter VC200 created by e-volo, a company based in Karlsruhe, Germany. In addition, the company believes that it could receive full German certification by 2017 in a category of aircraft known as an “ultralight”.
The Volocopter is a drone equipped with sensors, including gyroscopes, accelerometers and magnetometers. Combined with an on-board computer system, the drone is able to fly autonomously. The pilot will only have to provides basic commands in order to operate the drone. With this being said, there is nothing to stop passenger drones of becoming reality.
