A Dutch kickstarter launches a minesweeping drone that claims to be twenty times faster and up to two hundred times cheaper than conventional methods of clearing drones. The aerial drone contains a metal detector, 3D mapping technology, and a robotic grip which holds and places detonators. In a world where everyday 10 are killed or maimed by mines, 79% of which are civilians, success of this technology could be a humanitarian breakthrough. The kickstarter has exceeded its target funding target, which it plans to use to build test drones, train pilots, and try them in the field, in order to measure their capabilities. Pre-orders are open at €3000, or €5000 for the one with the robotic grip designed for detonators.
