Driving the net zero transition for your portfolio companies: market trends and best practices

2nd of September 2022 at 09:00 am CET.

We present you the recoring and presentation from breakfast meeting dedicated for Private Equity companies “Driving the net zero transition for your portfolio companies: market trends and best practices”, which was held on the

2nd of September 2022 at 09:00 am CET.

Conducting shareholder engagement activities within investment portfolios is one of the most impactful levers that investors can use to achieve real-world decarbonisation. Over the past three years we have seen a stunning increase in institutional investor’s commitments to reach net zero GHG emissions by 2050. As an example the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) since launching in April 2021 has brought together more than 450 members representing over $130 trillion in assets under management committed to accelerate global decarbonisation efforts and net zero by 2050.

Yet despite the high levels of institutional pledges there are significant gaps between investor net zero concerns and tangible actions. PwC’s Global Private Equity Responsible Investment Survey 2021 shows that only 21% of respondents are taking action on net zero compared to 51% of those expressing concern but without implementing any measures.

It is clear, that investors can benefit from engaging their portcos on the journey to net zero by:

  • mitigating portfolio exposure to climate-related financial risks
  • grasping rapidly growing investment opportunities
  • securing ongoing and future value creation for beneficiaries

But the question remains what does this mean in practice and how to overcome today’s challenges for creating tomorrow’s value.

Watch our experts and guests discuss practical examples and recommendations for institutional investors, in regards to shareholder engagement processes on net zero transition plans.
